2011 Nimby Fifty - Thanks Everyone! (A wrap up blog)

Posted on May 30, 2011

The second annual Nimby Fifty was an overwhelming success by all accounts. By race day all 300 spots were filled, the rain stayed away, and the sun made its way through the clouds. We could not have asked for more ideal weather or course conditions.

Our new start/finish venue at North Arm Farm was amazing. With Mount Currie as the back drop, the ample lawn space and patios seemed to be the perfect mix for post-race recovery, relaxation and celebration. People also seemed to be quite pleased with the relaxed spin out along Hwy 99. And rumour has it that despite people playing volleyball and posing for photos in their underwear at one point, Mayor Sturdy wants us back next year! Apparently sticking to the port-potties and having a generally kick-awesome good time after the race is a great way to win over the Mayor's support.

A huge thanks goes out to all the racers who signed up for the event and participated, and of course all of our amazing volunteers and sponsors for helping make our second year absolutely incredible.

We know this race course is tough. We've ridden it ourselves many times (yes, at race pace); and for some of you it's, perhaps, the most heinous ride you'll do all year, and those are the comments we love to hear!

Our tireless efforts to make this event happen all become worth it when people cross the finish line and exclaim the race to be the hardest one they've ever ridden or that the Pemby singletrack made them smile, or that they simply had a great time and loved the event.

Saturday May 28, 2011 filled the Pemberton Valley with enormous amounts of positive energy, and lots of healthy bike related suffering. Whether you were there to race, ride, volunteer or simply watch and cheer, we want to thank you.

This race is the culmination of over 6 months of planning efforts, and it all went by so fast - though not faster than Neal Kindree's blistering time of 2:15:59 - but damn fast! We had a wonderful time and can't wait to do this again in 2012. See you there!

Thank you everyone!

Happy Trails,
Russ, Dean & Terry

p.s. We're still recouperating from all the intensity of the day, so check back soon for photos and a full event wrap up. Until then, checkout our Facebook page and the Results page on our website, also be sure to checkout Pemberton's own Dave Steers' photos on Flickr.
