2013 NIMBY Fifty Important Racer Information

Hello NIMBY Fifty Racer!

If you've received our pre-race email before you know it's a bit long, but we do our best to tell you all the good stuff. So grab a cold one and read onward.

If you have not already done so, please be sure to check the official race details page on our website here: http://www.nimbyfifty.com/race-details/

Here's a few things you should know for Race Day:

Racer Check-in

Racer check-in is mandatory for all racers. Check-in opens at 8 am and closes at 10 am. No exceptions for late comers!

Please bring photo ID to check-in. Cycling BC and UCI members please also bring your ID card.

All racers (except those travelling with children) must park 0.5 km east of North Arm Farm at Pemberton Industrial Park, no parking inside the Farm. Google Map link: http://goo.gl/maps/li2AN

Day-of Registration

There are still spots open. Online reg ($85 plus $5 trail fee and insurance if needed) closes Friday at 8 pm, while day-of registration will be available provided there are still spots open, between 8am and 9am (yes, 9am) ($85 plus $5 trail fee and insurance if needed). No exceptions for late comers!

Race Start Time

Race starts at 11:00 AM, sharp! Start chute will be open from 10:00 AM onwards and a Pro/Elite area will corralled off at the front.

Race Etiquette

No matter how competitive you are or not, this is a bike race. Please be respectful to one another out there on the course - rather than yell at the person in front of you to move over, stay calm and save your energy. You'll need it!

If you want to get by another racer be patient, let them know you're there, and where and when you intend to pass.   If someone wants to get by, let them once it's safe for you to move over, then get back to enjoying your ride. If someone has caught up to you, they've beaten you already so just let them go.

Feed Zones

There is one stocked feedzone / aid station located at the Paraglide launch, it is not open to support crews.  You are welcome to send water bottles for yourself up to this feedzone and our vollies will place all racer bottles on a table they will not be handing them out, so be sure to mark your bottle clearly. Please see the website for more details and directions to the designated support crew feed zone (feed zone #2): http://www.nimbyfifty.com/race-details/feed-zones

Safety / First Aid

If you can, please ride with a cell phone and if you come across someone who needs help, call the following number: 604-902-3536 to reach PVSAR (Pemberton Valley Search & Rescue) who will be on course throughout the race. Otherwise, notify the nearest course marshall you come across.

Riding on the Road - Race Start

At the start, we'll have Hwy 99 closed off in both directions, and a vehicle leading out the pack at a moderate pace. There will be ample passing opportunities once you hit the gravel road climb, so please keep it safe and relaxed when pack riding on the road.

Riding on the Road - Race Finish

Near the end of the race, you will be riding the same stretch of Hwy 99 you did at the beginning. At this point you must obey all rules of the road and stick to the right hand side of the road and/or shoulder.

There is a stop sign at the intersection of Hwy 99 and Old Pemberton Farm Road (the paved road you'll be on after you cross the railway tracks).   Please obey that stop sign. If the flagger waves you ahead, you're in luck, you can just roll right through. If they ask you to stop or slow down please do so. We will have Official flaggers and members of the Fire Department on Hwy 99 at this intersection to stop and slow down vehicles, however, the highway will not be closed. While on the road, ride safely and be aware of your surroundings.

Finally, keep your head up and look for the large NIMBY Fifty sign pointing you to turn Right into North Arm Farm. Once you enter, you'll ride back along the Farm driveway (stay to your right) toward the finish, which is right around the corner. Be sure to slow down for the turn into the farm - it’s deceptively sharp!

Red Bull Downtime

For the Red Bull Downtime race within the race please be aware that the entrance chute is single file – once you enter the chute you can not stop as the order you enter through the Red Bull arches is important – there will be a staging area (marked in green paint on the ground) before the chute if you want to stop for any reason. Cut-off time for Red Bull Downtime is 3 hours into the race.

Awards & Prizing

Awards for Overall race and category winners will begin at 3:30pm.

Papa Josh is back to crank out the tunes, and The Pony will be there preparing fresh, gourmet salads and one of the best burgers you will ever eat. For the veggies out there, The Pony will be preparing one of the tastiest falafel pita’s around.

Racers, your meal and first beer is included with your entry.  Additional beers will be available for $4.  Please drink responsibly. If you drink, do not drive. Plan ahead, and designate a driver. Consider camping at the Farm!

The Pony will also have plenty of additional meals available for purchase for families and support members.  And we will have plenty of additional beer for sale. You, your support crew and spectators can also buy a variety of other meals, snacks and beverages from inside at the North Arm bakery/cafe.  No one should leave hungry!

While there will be plenty of lawn space, we'd also recommend bringing a camping chair if you'd like to sit in a more civilized manner after the race while downing your beer.

North Arm Farm

The race start/finish area is on private property. So please be sure to thank Jordan & Trish Sturdy (the owners) if you happen to meet or know them, as we'd really like to be invited back next year.  Now this may seem rather obvious, but we'll say it anyway: please be respectful to their land and use the porta-potties (or washrooms located inside the cafe) do not use the fields or bushes. Lastly, no dogs allowed at the farm.

Have a great race, and see you all Saturday!
