NIMBY Fifty 2013 - Spring Newsletter

Posted on April 15, 2013

The final count down is on. We're now less than 40 days away from the fourth annual NIMBY Fifty Saturday May 25th, 2013 in Pemberton, BC.

Online registration is open and the race is over 50% full. Early bird pricing ends Saturday April 20th. Visit the website to register. We have a some exciting things to tell you about so read onward.

Trail Conditions

The trails in Pemberton are in great shape right now and it's just tacky sweet single track everywhere. Other than the road over to Overnight Sensation from the Glider launch and the new trail "Fifty", the entire course is clear of snow and blow-down trees (including Let it Go). So you can definitely get in some quality pre-rides already. Plan for the course to be marked within 1-2 weeks of race day.

TaG Cycling NIMBY Fifty Training Camps

For 2013 we have partnered up with TaG Cycling to offer two pre-race training days where we will split up into groups to pre-ride the course with TaG coaches. Race tactics and tips will be given along the way by coaches with a wealth of knowledge when it comes to racing mountain bikes.

Dates for the camps are: Sunday May 5th (pre-ride first half of NIMBY Fifty course) and Sunday May 12th (pre-ride second half of NIMBY Fifty course). TaG Cycling coaches for these camps will be Chrissy de Vall and Greg Day. Depending on numbers, TaG has a number of other qualified coaches who will attend. Cost for these camps is $10 per day, this covers insurance and coaching fees.

To signup for either date, send an email directly to TaG Cycling at and include your name, phone number and the date you wish to attend.

Red Bull Downtime is back!

Red Bull will once again be supporting a downhill stage of the event – a race within a race. The male and female competitors with the fastest Red Bull Downtime will each win $250. The overall fastest Red Bull Downtime will also win a team entry to Red Bull Divide and Conquer on Vancouver’s North Shore. For more info, check it out.

Camping at North Arm Farm - Friday May 24th & Saturday May 25th

For the first time ever, we are pleased to confirm there will be on-site camping at NIMBY Fifty the night before and the night of the race. Roll right out of your tent and into the starting line. After the race, simply relax and kick back then crawl into your tent whenever you want to call it a day. Cost will be $10 per person per night and it will be on a first-come first-serve basis. No reservations. No pets. Tents only. No RVs or Trailers. Final details will be posted on our website closer to race day.

Papa Josh returns to fill the air with his 'funktastic' tunes, and The Pony will be back to serve a delicious post race feast.

The Tippie Factor

The legendary Brett Tippie returns this year as our official Emcee, which means you'd better be prepared for lots of laughs because he will have you howling. We also struck a deal with Tippie last year that if he wants to earn a bonus for his time on the mic he needs to pre-ride the course in it's entirety before the race. This is what Brett had to say about it: "Oh gawd! Last year I thought all you hammer heads were crazy!! I wanna be crazy too!!"

We’re proud to have the support of some really great sponsors including our presenting sponsor, The Soze Group, as well as our Silver sponsors Different Bikes, Steed Cycles and new for this year, TaG Cycling.
